1992 Dodge Ram 250 Conversion Van Hitch Recommendation

Question:

Can you recommend a hitch that will fit my 1992 Dodge Ram 250 Conversion Van style name Zephyr? I am looking for a hitch that can maximize the amount of towing capacity as my trailer is about 4000 lbs with a tongue weight of 450lbs. I do not believe there is any bumper step in the back, so I guess it is just a standard rear bumper.

The Zephyr conversion didn't do anything to change the rear bumper and frame area of your 1992 Ram 250 van, so a standard hitch would work great for you. I'd recommend the Curt Class III Receiver Hitch # C13041. The hitch has a 6000 lb towing/600 lb tongue weight capacity. If used with a weight distribution system, that would climb to 10,000/1000 lbs. In other words, the hitch will have more towing capacity than the van, although you'll be limited to the actual capacity of the van. The Draw-Tite # 75140 you mentioned would also work, but it has a lower capacity of 5000 lb towing/500 lb tongue weight.

To wire the van for towing, I'd recommend the # 18252 but instead of the quick splice connectors included, I'd solder the connections and use heat shrink tubing like # DW05452 to protect the connections.

You'll also need a ball mount like # C45030, the correctly sized trailer ball # 40038 for a 2 inch ball or # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch. Your trailer coupler will have the necessary ball size stamped on it.
