Please tell me what the converter in this package bypasses?

On the Hopkins Plug-N-Tow Wiring Harness, part # 31345, for the 2003 Chevrolet Express, the powered converter is used to supply the power to the trailer lights by being connected directly to the vehicles battery. When drawing the power directly from the battery the converter is bypassing any expensive electrical components that are in your vehicles electrical system. This prevents any damage to those components that could happen if the power was run through your vehicles electrical system.
The Hopkins wiring harness will still get the signals for the trailer from your vehicles wiring harness.
