Power Needed for Furrion AC for Van Conversion

Question:

I am looking in to buying a sprinter van with a 170 in wheelbase. I want to know if this size of air conditioner would be good for that, and how many batteries of what size i would need to power it most of the day. I have a dog who would live in the van with us and I absolutely need a good air conditioning unit that will keep her cool but also be able to be run indefinitely. I don't understand amp hours and volts and all of that, but I am trying to learn.

I definitely appreciate both the fact that you are trying to keep your dog cool and trying to learn, though I should say there isn't going to be an air conditioner that can run indefinitely, and something that runs for long periods of time is going to use up a ton of power.

So if you want to use the Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner System - Manual - 15,000 Btu - Black
Item # FR32PR - powering it for long periods of time via batteries and an inverter isn't really feasible. Essentially you would need a gigantic battery bank that would take up a a lot of space and be extremely costly, and re-charging them would take a very long time and also not be inexpensive.

Your best option for what you are attempting to do is use a generator with the largest fuel capacity available, which is the Firman 10,000-Watt Portable Generator - 8,000 Running Watts - Propane or Gas - Electric Start # 333-H08051

This has an 8 gallon tank and can run continuously for 12 hours at half its 8,000 running watt output.

Hello Kyle, FACR14SA-BL I am looking at this Furrion Rv air conditioner for a conversion van. I read your comment above, saying that it will require a lot of power to run it. Can I run it on shore power without any problem? I could possibly run it a couple of hours a day on my inverter, but would like to set it up to run on shore power. Thanks for your help.

You are definitely good if you only plan on powering the Furrion Chill # FR32PR with shore power. Monica was just looking to use batteries to power the AC unit and those have a finite amount of energy before they need to recharge where shore power essentially has an unlimited supply.
