Installing 4-Pole Trailer Connector on 2002 Chevy Silverado with No Trailer Connector

Question:

i just need to know the color chart to the factory wiring harness, so i can know what wires to splice into without using my test light. the truck came from factory without any type of wiring for pulling trailers. I am going to be installing a 4-way flat.

If your Silverado has the factory plug located above the spare tire, the easiest way to install a 4-pole would be to use the Tow Ready # 118384. Simply remove the protective cap covering the plug, plug in one of the connectors on the Tow Ready Harness and run the 4-pole to the desired location.

If there is nothing but the harness above the spare tire with no plug on it, the wiring from the 4-pole like part # 18002 would connect to the factory harness color for color, yellow to yellow, green to green, brown to brown and white to white. If you would like to have a 7-way in addition to the 4-pole for future flexibility, you could use part # HM40975-11998, which would wire into the harness above the spare tire, color for color. If there is the factory plug, use part # HM40975. The factory connector would plug directly into the back of the # HM40975.

I produced two photos showing what the factory plug or harness (whichever is present) looks like.
