Does 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Need Base Plate to be Flat Towed

Question:

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2018 Flat towing options. Can you use the existing tow hooks on the jeep grand Cherokee with a system to flat tow the vehicle? I know that most vehicles require a base plate. Can the GC 2018 Overland model 4x4 just be connected to the factory Tow Hooks?? Or do I have to install some type of baseplate?

Your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee does require a base plate in order for you to flat tow it; the reason for this is because it gives you the most secure and stable connection to your motorhome and that the tow hooks are for recovery purposes and not intended to tow the vehicle. Most importantly this increases the safety of flat towing but it is also the best thing to do for your Jeep in terms of its chassis and suspension. I recommend checking out the "Recreational Towing" section of your owner's manual for more information on this, which starts on page 366 of the online copy I took a look at.

Along with base plates there are a few other parts that you are going to need in order to flat tow, and I'll list those for you here:

- Base Plate Kit: Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit # DM9519291
- Tow Bar: Demco Excali-Bar III Non-Binding Tow Bar # DM9511013
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
- Supplemental Braking System: SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251
OR
- If your motor home has air brakes: SMI Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motor Homes with Air Brakes # SM99243

I have added links to video reviews and installs for you to check out as well.
