Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Subaru Forester to Carry Thule Apex 4 XT Bike Rack
Question:
Hi! I purchased the Thule Apex XT 4 bike rack, but the hitch on my 2018 Subaru Forrester seems incompatible since the hole on the side of the hitch is only about 1/2 inch back from the end. Do you have a recommendation for making this hitch and bike rack work? Is there some kind of adaptor extender? Thanks!

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Subaru hitches are honestly pretty obnoxious in how they are made since they have really shallow hitch pin holes which makes installing bike racks in them almost impossible. The best solution we have is going to be to replace the factory hitch of your 2018 Subaru Forester with one that has a normal pin hole so that you can use your Thule Apex bike rack # TH9025XT which fits 1-1/4 inch hitches.
For that you'll want the Draw Tite part # 36523 for a couple reasons. It doesn't require a stabilzer strap like the Curt hitches do, and it's a Class II 1-1/4 inch hitch which means you'll be able to carry 4 bikes with your rack. I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out as well.
