Best Fixed Ball Mount Option for Motorhome and Tow Dolly Compatibility with 10-11 Inch Drop
Question:
I am looking to purchase a hitch for my motorhome. I will be towing a car dolly and my car. Weight of dolly is 380 lbs, car weight is 3,350 lbs. The height of my hitch is between 25 and 26 inches still working on true flat measurement. Ideal coupler height to bottom of coupler is 14 inches, but up to 16 is within acceptable parameters as well. My hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs with 500 lb tongue weight. Will this do the job? I want to make sure I have a quality product that will do the job over the long haul. It will only get occasional use - 3 - 4 trips per year, up to 3,000 miles/year. I am also looking at Convert-A-Ball-mount - AMSC10. Hoping to order today and would appreciate your expertise/advice on this. Thank you in advance.

The Draw-Tite Ball Mount - 9-3/4" Rise, 11" Drop - 9" Long - 3,500 to 5,000 lbs # 80248 will bring your hitch height to 14 or 15 inches to match your tow dolly. The ball mount is rated for up to 5,000 lbs n the drop position so you simply need to use a hitch ball rated for 3,750 lbs or more. I recommend the 2 inch ball # 63845 or the 2-5/16 inch ball # 63847 depending on which matches your coupler. Both are rated for 7,500 lbs so they will work well.
The Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 8-3/4" Rise - 10" Drop - 8,000 lbs # AMSC10 can use the same hitch balls and is a nicer and stronger option that also has a cushion integrated. This will help absorb some of the road shock which is a really nice feature. This would be my personal preference so in my opinion the best option between them.
