Solution to Add Auxiliary Brake and Tail Light to Truck Camper With Light Obscured by Bike Rack

Question:

I am mounting bikes on the back of my truck camper, which partially obscures the driver’s side brake/tail light. If I install an auxiliary tail light on the bumper or a set of auxiliary lights I think the problem will be solved. I assume a wiring harness that connects the auxiliary lights to the trailer plug-in the truck is the way to power them. What light set would you recommend? I think I like the extra safety of the plus-80” wrap arounds.

It is a smart idea to add an auxiliary light set to your truck camper bumper with magnetic tow lights, which are normally used for flat towing vehicles but would be perfect for your application.

The Heavy Duty Magnetic Tow Lights # TL21RK will plug right into a 4-way and could also work even if you have plugged your 7-way into the camper, so long as your truck has a connector with a 7-way and 4-way like the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Twist-Mount 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector # HM40920.

Or, if you do not have a 7- and 4-way connector what you could do is splice the separate, female end of the 4-way that the Magnetic Tow Lights come with into your camper wiring and plug them into that.
