If your 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee has no factory trailer wiring you'll need just two items to add a fully functional 7-way (female) trailer socket, basic 4-pole kit # 118349 and 7-way kit # ETBC7. The 4-pole installation consists of plugging in connectors at your tail lights and making one 12V power wire connection to the battery. Kit # 118349 has all the parts needed including wire and connectors. Then # ETBC7 will plug in to the 4-pole plug and provide the parts to make the connections for the additional circuits on the 7-way. These typically include 12V auxiliary power, trailer brake controller output and reverse light power. Installation and help articles are linked for you to help with both kits.
If you also intend to install a wired trailer brake controller like the Primus IQ # TK90160 then instead you will want to use kit # ETBC7 which gives you the 7-way and allows for complete installation of the brake controller too. If you prefer a wireless brake controller like the Curt Echo # C51180 then use kit # ETBC7L.
The part # C55664 that you referenced is a 6-pole/4-pole combination connector that requires a round U.S. Car type plug to be already present at the back of the vehicle.
