Adding Brakes to 1994 Coleman Pioneer Chesapeake Pop-Up Camper

Question:

I am trying to put together all the parts I will need to add brakes to my 1994 Coleman pioneer Chesapeake. I would like to know if the bearings in this drum set are the correct size for the axle on my trailer.

Trailer bearings are not listed in the specs for your 22-foot 1994 Coleman Pioneer Chesapeake pop-up but usually the axle weight rating tells us a lot about the bearings used. Since your trailer has a dry weight of 1445-lbs it probably has a 2K axle and this means the bearings are usually either # L44643 or # L44649. Hub/drum part # 8-257-5UC3 uses bearing # L44649 as the inner and outer bearing so if you pull one of your idler hubs and find that part number on your two bearings then you can use this hub/drum.

For compatible electric brakes you can use parts # AKEBRK-2R and # AKEBRK-2L as long as your spindles have 4-bolt brake mounting flanges. You'll also need a trailer breakaway kit # 50-85-315, wiring junction box # HS381-9000 for making the brake and light wiring connections, and # 10-2-1 wire to reach from the brakes to the box. Ring terminals like # 44-5310A and butt connectors like # DW05745-10 will be used to make connections to the existing wiring.
