Trailer Lights Cut Out When Attached to 2017 Honda Pilot with LED Tail Lights

Question:

The Trailers tail lights work but the brake and turn signal lights give a brief flash and then do not work. I think the problem is that the Honda lights are LED and the trailer lights are incandescent. That there is insufficient power in the LED lights circuits to drive the incandescent trailer lights.. The trailer lights work correctly when hooked to an older Jeep. The wiring for the Honda trailer connection was installed after market. I think the part # C56291 is the answer. Can you verify this? Also, do all 2017 Pilots have the white connector that the C56291 connector plugs into even if the pilot was not ordered with a tow package? Thank you,

Helpful Expert Reply:

The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56291 installs via a factory tow package port that is present on all models of the 2017 Honda Pilot with or without the factory tow package. This factory tow package port is wired independently of the factory tail light circuits therefore there won't be any issues with the limited amp draw of your factory LED tail lights. If the trailer wiring harness you are using now does splice into the tail lights then this is most likely why you are having issues with the trailer stop/turn signal lights cutting off.

I have attached an install video for you on the above.
