Trailer Hitch and Wiring for 2016 Ford Edge Sport to Tow Small Boat Trailer
Question:
Will a 2-inch Class III hitch option for a 2016 Ford Edge Sport be able to tow a 17-foot boat on a boat trailer?

For your 2016 Ford Edge Sport the Draw Tite hitch part # 75234 that you referenced is a confirmed fit and would be a great hitch to use to tow a small boat trailer assuming the weight of the boat and trailer is below the capacity of both the hitch and the vehicle. This hitch has a towing capacity of 4,500 lbs but when I looked up your vehicle it has a capacity of 2,000 lbs so that would be your overall capacity. You might verify this with Ford too.
For trailer wiring I recommend the Tekonsha kit part # 118677 because it's very easy to install and also very reliable. I attached an install video for this for you to check out too.
Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
