Changing to Higher Load Range G ST235/80R16 Tires on 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
I have a 2014 Crossroads Cruiser 35SS fifth-wheel trailer. The OEM tires are LR E. Ive read about going to G tires as they are less prone to blowout at upper speed. Ive had two blowouts on E rated tires, one that caused a lot of trailer damage. Will I need to get different wheels, since G pressures run about 110 psi as opposed to E tires at 80 psi? Though I now have Goodyear Endurance LR E tires, Ive lost confidence. My trailer weighs 11,800 total.

A higher Load Range E tire is going to have a larger load capacity, which will technically allow the tire to run a bit cooler under load during travel. A radial tire will also do a better job of running cooler than a bias ply alternative. Since excessive heat is the primary cause of trailer tire failure going up a bit in capacity isn't a bad idea at all.
Based on my research it looks like your 2014 Crossroads Cruiser uses ST235/80R16 size tires. If this is correct I recommend the Provider Radial Trailer Tire # PRG80235 that features a maximum load of 4,080 pounds at 110 psi and an excellent speed rating of 81 mph.
As you mentioned in your question your current wheels likely can't handle this higher psi number but this is an easy fix. That's because it's not the wheel itself but the valve stem that limits its psi maximum. If you have any rubber on your current valve stems you will just need to replace them with an all metal unit like the Americana # AM20906 that has a maximum air pressure of 200 psi.
