Does Brake Lite Relay Need to be Installed on Vehicle with Bulb/Socket Tow Bar Lighting Installed

Question:

I would like to install a Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit For Towed Vehicles LED Bulb and Socket item #152-LED on a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I addition I plan on using a Roadmaster Portable Braking System. Since I am bypassing the vehicles light system will a relay be required? Thanks for your help.

The brake lite relay # RM-88400 that you referenced might still be needed. What you'll want to do is press the brake of your Grand Cherokee with the key in the position it needs to be in when flat towing.

If the brake lights come on then you will need the relay. Reason being the brake lights are going to keep the light assemblies illuminated when the blinkers are on from the tow bar lighting. So what that would look like is the bulb socket kit will be flashing a light in an already illuminated assembly which means the flashing wouldn't be visible. The relay prevents the brake pedal of your towed vehicle from basically overpowering the light assemblies.
