Troubleshooting StrongArm SA9015AC Winch Blowing 20A Circuit Breaker When Running Forward
Question:
Can I check motor windings with meter? It only runs forward, when I reverse it blows 20A breaker. Fine runs forward, want to make sure not motor before switch replacement. Thanks..

If your Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch # DL25019 is blowing the fuse when you are pulling the line in there are a few things to check.
First of all look at the motor wire and check for any places where the insulation is damaged, especially where they make contact with the winch frame. The next thing that we would normally check is the motor but since it sounds like you have it working one way then I believe you either have it overloaded or you need to replace one of the switches.
Inspect your switches to make sure that they are properly in place. If your In-Out switch is in place then you likely need to swap it out. We have the replacement In-Out Switch listed as part # DL204491 on our site.
If swapping out the switch doesn't do the trick then the next step would be to replace the entire control unit with part # DL24089.
Let us know if this doesn't fix your problem and we can help you troubleshoot further.
