Will Trailer Hitch for 2019 Acura RDX Increase Vehicle Towing Capacity
Question:
Need to pull 20' boat 3500 lb dry weight up boat ramp then 500 yds to house a couple times per year. 2019 acura RDX OEM hitch is only rated for 1500 lbs. This hitch part # 76268 is rated at 3500 lbs, RDX rated at 1500. Will this work for the occasional tow?

Expert Reply:
The towing capacity of any vehicle is always determined by the lowest-rated component; for your 2019 Acura RDX that would be the 1,500 lbs it is rated for.
Even if you install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 76268, which has a 3,500 lb towing capacity, your '19 RDX will still only have a 1,500 lb capacity. We always recommend adhering to the ratings set forth by the manufacturer so the decision to tow would be entirely up to you.
Should you make that decision you will need a ball mount and Ball Mount Kit # 989900 may fulfill your towing needs in one package; two ball mounts - one with a 3/4” rise or 2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise or 4” drop - along with a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball, and a pin and clip.
You can use the link to the help article on ball mounts I've added to determine if this kit will give you the correct amount of drop or rise.
