Should I Tighten Sway Control Bar Adjustment If Still Experiencing Sway
Question:
Our trailer still sways like crazy when a large truck goes by. How will I know if I get the adjustment nut to tight. I dont want to make it so I cant make sharp turns in small towns or will this even matter?

If your trailer still sways with the Reese Friction Sway Control part # 83660, I recommend to tighten the adjustment nut when you plan on highway driving. Per the instructions you want to adjust the screw by 1/4 turns until you reach the desired control.
Since the bar can be adjusted, you may have to adjust it to certain driving situations. You do not want to overtighten the bar to the point you cannot make turns at all. If you are planning on making sharp turns in town you may want to loosen the nut a 1/4 of a turn. Also if you are planning on driving in ice or snow you want to loosen the nut as well.
If you are still experiencing sway after tightening the nut, you can add a second sway control bar part # 83660. If the trailer is longer than 26 feet or weighs more than 6,000 lbs you should use two sway control bars. You may even consider going with a complete weight distribution system with sway control. A good weight distribution system would eliminate your sway issues with the trailer. If you let me know the weight of the trailer when fully loaded and the tongue weight on the hitch, I can let you know which weight distribution system is best for you. I have attached an article on weight distribution as well.
