Transmission Cooler Installation in 2012 Honda Odyssey
Question:
Is a thermostat necessary when using an auxiliary cooler?
asked by: Arthur F
Expert Reply:
You do not need to add a separate thermostat when installing a supplementary transmission fluid cooler liker Derale # D13503, the one recommended for your Odyssey, since transmission fluid cannot be over-cooled.
Coolers can be installed in any orientation; it does not matter in which direction the hose ports face. It may be necessary to add a bit more fluid to the system after the cooler is installed to account for the volume inside the hoses and inside the cooler itself. Usually this is not more than about 8-ounces. An install video is linked for reference along with a couple of help articles.
