How to Add Ground Clearance to Fleetwood Travel Trailer

Question:

I just bought a 2004 Fleetwood Terry travel trailer. I need more ground clearance? I have messed up my scissor jack because they bump the ground.

To add clearance on your 2004 Fleetwood Terry Travel Trailer I recommend installing what is called an over/under conversion kit, which moves your trailer's leaf springs to the top of your axle and lifts your trailer approximately the same amount as your axle's diameter plus the height of the leaf spring pack (please keep in mind this conversion kit is for use with double-eye springs only). I have added a photo a customer sent in which displays how the kit will look after being installed.

If you had a 2-3/8" round axle you would need Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00 or if you had a 3" round axle you would need Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00. An axle which is 2-3/8" is commonly found on 3,500 lb axles while a 3" axle is commonly found on axles with ratings of 6,000 lbs, so it is likely the one you are going to need is # K71-384-00 and for a tandem axle trailer you would need two sets of these.

For new scissor jacks I recommend the Ultra-Fab # UF48-979002 due to their reliability, as evidenced by the fact they come with a lifetime warranty. These jacks have 24" of lift and a 6,500 lb support capacity.

I've added links to video reviews of both over/under kits as well as the jacks for you to take a look at.
