How to Pick Out Replacement 4,000 lb Trailer Leaf Spring for Trailer

Question:

Need to replace travel trailer tandem axle leaf springs. In measuring eye to eye I get 26inch on one and 25 3/4inch on the other I assume because of the equalizer and the weight of the trailer is causing the difference. What size measurement would I use? With it being under load while measuring should I decrease length? They are 3500 axles but would like to increase leafs to a 4000 rating. Would the increase also slightly raise the trailer? Thanks

When measuring leaf springs you need to take the load off of the trailer so that the spring is not flexed at all to get an accurate measurement. Since typically old springs will stretch a bit you'll take that measurement and look for a replacement that's around 1/8 of an inch shorter with the correct axle capacity.

Most likely the best 4,000 lb leaf spring option we have is the part # e57SR which measures 25-1/4 inches. You should verify the length of your springs unloaded first though.
