Available Bolt-On A-Frame Trailer Couplers

Question:

Would it be possible to drill mount holes in the hitch so you can bolt it on and not weld it on?

Expert Reply:

Sleeve-Lock A-Frame Trailer Coupler # CA-5296H-B is made for weld-on installation. We do have A-frame couplers that bolt on, like # BD44150WH301 and others shown on the linked page, but none of these is a sleeve lock type.

Drilling the coupler to allow bolt-on installation could result in a reduced capacity. The trouble is that there is no way to know exactly what effect drilling has without actually testing the coupler. The part has never been tested in this way and so you would be in unknown territory if you chose to make this modification.

For safety and reliability reasons I recommend using one of the standard A-frame bolt-on couplers on the linked page.
