Can Tire Size 5.30-12 Easily Replace 4.80-12 on Trailer
Question:
I have a HFTools 92174 trailer which has served me well for over 11 yrs. It has 4.80-12 tire size however I have recently built on it an enclosed light structure, now used as utility trailer for camping, cooking, etc. My bolt pattern is the same as the AM30780, 4 holes which are 4 inches apart. Will the 5.30-12 fit there? What is the difference between the two other than accepting more weight, one wider than the other? If it fits, and as I have some new tires, can I keep the 4.80-12 as an emergency replacement? Thank you.

As long as you have the clearance needed to fit a tire that's slightly taller and wider than what you currently have a 5.30-12 would work well. Your current tire size is 20.5 inches in diameter and the 5.30-12 is 21.9 inches in diameter. So this would eat up about 3/4 of an inch of your current fender clearance. Assuming that's not an issue the # AM30780 would work fine since the bolt pattern matches.
