Kayak Carrier Recommendation for Hobie Outback that Weighs 99 lbs

Question:

Hi there, I plan on transporting a Hobie Outback 99lbs on a Honda Pilot with a set of Thule AeroBlades. I want to carry it keel-down for ease of loading. I’m thinking about purchasing the Rhino T Load but I have a couple questions. First, what would you reccomend for holding/stabilizing the kayak on the roof rack after i get it up there i.e. are saddles required? Second, are there any other setups that you would reccomend over what I have suggested given the rather heavy weight of the kayak? Many thanks,

For your Honda Pilot with Thule Aeroblade crossbars there's really only one kayak rack we carry that's going to have the capacity you need. The etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier # e98878 that you referenced has a 100 lb capacity and fit Thule Aeroblade bars like what you have so it will be a great option for you.

This would also work with the Rhino Rack T-Load # RTL002.

How can you load the Hobie into the etrailer J rack? The rhinorack universal side loader will not work with the e trailer jrack.

The etrailer carrier would just require lifting the kayak up onto the roof. If you're looking for a list-assist setup, I recommend checking out the Malone DownLoader System # MPG114MD-351XL or the Thule Hullavator # TH898.

I am lookin at loading 2 Hobie outback kayaks on a 2018 Chevy equinox. I have roof racks but I need the J style rack. What do you recommend? Thx!!

I actually really like the etrailer J-Style # e98878 (and not just because of the name). They come with all the straps you need, have a uniquely robust weight capacity (150 pounds), and come at a really reasonable price. You'll need two sets for both your kayaks.
