Wiring US 4-Way Trailer Connector to Trailer with European 7-Way Trailer Wiring

Question:

I tried to wire my Euro Trailer lights according to your diagram but with no luck. I know you said that the adapter can only support basic trailer lights but is there any work around for this? My light bar contains license plate bulbs so Im guessing thats the reason it wont work. Im pretty sure I wired everything correctly, but I had to take some liberties after I cut off the 7-way euro plug to wire both sides of the lightbar into the adapter. See photo. Thanks.

Since you want to go from a 4-way on your vehicle to a trailer with a European 7 flat, you will simply be able to use the Tow Ready Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter # 118158 (this doesn't work with LED lights). This will take the combined stop and turn signal wires on your 4-way and separate them for your European 7-way. You will connect the 4-way color-for-color and the running light will run around this adapter versus through it, and the ground will need to be spliced so it can run into as well as around this converter.

Then on the output side, you will have running/clearance/fot lights that can be spliced to run to different sides, ground run to the trailer frame, left turn, right turn, and then you will split the brake/stop light signal to run to each side. That will account for all 7 functions needed for your European 7-way.
