Will 7-Way Connector Charge Auxiliary Trailer Battery
Question:
My old trailer use to charge the on board battery. My new trailer does not. Is the Yellow AUX. wire supposed to be connected to the battery to charge it?

Expert Reply:
The yellow wire on the Hopkins 7-Way RV Style Connector with Molded Cable # H20046 will not be able to charge an on-board battery, it should really be used for reverse lights. To charge the auxiliary battery on your trailer the best option is to use a battery charger such as the CTEK MULTI US 3300 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger # CTEK56353 which you would plug into a standard outlet.
You can maintain that charge when driving by running # 10-1-1 wire along with 40 amp circuit breaker # 9510 in-line to the black wire (12 volt hot lead); to keep that maintenance charge going only when your tow vehicle is running you will need to use solenoid # PK5231201.
