Recommended Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount For 2-1/2 Inch Hitch With 9 Inch Rise/Drop

Question:

My application is going to be a Ram 5500 pulling a 28 ft InTech enclosed trailer. Not concerned with overall weight at all just trying to decide if the 16k or 21k would serve me the best. My tongue wt empty is approx. 2200 lbs / 28. My cargo is either 1 or 2 Polaris RZRs that weigh in at 3300 lbs. When both are loaded my tongue wt is 1600 lbs but I still dont have coolers up front and can always move a RZR up some to push me up to 1700-1800+ lbs on the tongue. Conversely, I probably could put cooler in the back and roll RZRs towards the back 1 ft and make tongue wt approx. 1400-1500lbs. I have read the optimal ride ranges on the 16k vs 21k so that is what I was trying to decide on so I could maximize the hitch benefits. I dont ever see me having a bumper pull trailer that exceeds 16k so max tow weight isnt a factor. Current fully loaded trailer comes in at 11,500. Thoughts? Also, you state that on the 21k version optimal ride ranges are 1600-2400lbs. However, on the GenY website they show 1500-2400lbs.

To answer your question about the optimal ride tongue weight, our ranges are referring to use with the 2-5/16 inch hitch ball while the Gen-Y website does not differentiate, hence the slight difference in ranges. That said, since you mentioned your tongue weight could be in the 1,800 lb range, I recommend going with the higher rated ball mount:

- Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers - 2-1/2" Hitch - 9" Drop/Rise - 21K # 325-GH-1325

Keep in mind, this is assuming you are using the 2-5/16 inch hitch ball because the tongue weight capacity for the 2 inch hitch ball on both models is 1,500 lbs.

The only other thing I recommend is the Bulldog Hitch Receiver Lock # BD580412 to help secure the Gen-Y and protect your investment. I have added links to video reviews of the ball mount and lock for you to check out as well.
