How to Complete Electric Brake Wiring to Trailer Connector

Question:

I have a 2000 Ford E-150 (5.4 Liter V8 with Split differential rear end) with which I intend to pull a 16 x 6 foot tandem axle trailer that I just bought. I have previously pulled a smaller Motorcycle Trailer with single Axle and no electric brakes. My 16’ x 6’ Trailer has Electric Brake Axles (2) and the wires are fed up to a box under the front of the trailer but they are not connected to the wiring that powers the trailer lights. The trailer lights do all work. I was asking if you have any wiring diagrams for connecting the wires in the box under the trailer to the wires in the lighting wire harness. The purpose of my inquiry is so that I can order the Curt Wireless Controller as well as a 15” Spare Tire Rim and mounting bracket all at the same time. I would be pulling this trailer with my 2003 Ford E-350 (5.4 Liter V8) BT Cruiser Camper as well on occasion so this is added incentive to make the wireless controller work.

It sounds like you have a junction box like part # 3375601101 installed on your trailer and the brake output wire from the assemblies are ran to this but not to the trailer connector. If that is the case than all you will need is a ring terminal like part # 44-5310A and some spare wire like part # 10-1-1 to finish running the brake output wire from the junction box to the trailer connector.

It sound like you may also need a new trailer connector as well and for that I recommend the 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector part # H20042 which can be attached directly to the junction box and will eliminate the need to run the brake output wire or you can run the brake output wire and just use the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector part # PK12706. Unfortunately, I do have any wiring diagrams for this process as it will be up to the decision of the installer.

The Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 is a great brake controller and will be perfect for transferring back and forth from your 2000 Ford E-150 and 2004 Ford E-350. The only thing that is required to use this brake controller is a 7-way with 12 volt power. If you don't have a 7-way on either van then you can use the 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Sockets w/ Mounting Bracket and Wiring part # HM40975-11998 to install one. I have attached a sample install video for you.
