Do Trailer Slipper Springs Normally Slip Out of their Rear Hangers
Question:
Hello, I noticed some squeaking when driving over bumps today. I got home and discovered that the slipper end of my spring had apparently slipped out. See the photo. How does this happen? I downgraded from the factory 2000# springs to this set or a predecessor for a smoother ride. Most of my loads are light. But I must admit to going 100-200 lbs over weight recently. Could the spring have bound under load and then popped back like this when the trailer went over a bump while empty? Perhaps I need to move up to the 1500# springs. I appreciate your assessment.

It's hard to see in your picture but is the hanger open on the one side which allows the spring to slide out to the side? It shouldn't be open like that. If you need a replacement hanger we have the # 115706S for if you have a 1-3/4 inch wide spring. Slipper springs slipping out of their hangers is not common, even though saying that out loud and considering the name...it would seem like it would be!
It would take a rather larger bump and perfect circumstances normally for a spring to pop out like that.
