Will Installing Trailer Hitch Increase Towing Capacity of 2015 Ford Edge

Question:

I have a 2015 Ford Edge with a 3.5 TI-VTC engine , 6 speed shift trans. currently without a towing package. My manuel says the maximum trailer weight is 2000 lb. Will this hitch increase the lbs? By how much? are there other products i can use in combination to get it higher? Im looking for 3000 lb if possible.

The Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 75234 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your 2015 Ford Edge. While this particular hitch does have a higher towing weight capacity of 4,500 pounds it will not actually increase the towing capacity of your vehicle. You will still need to adhere to the 2,000 pound limit of the vehicle itself, as you are always limited by a system's weakest component. Because of this no aftermarket product will actually raise the factory towing capacity of your Ford Edge.

If you find a lighter trailer that you want to tow you will also need to add a trailer wiring harness. For this I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118669 if you have the SE or SEL model or the Tekonsha # 118677 if you have the Sport or Titanium model. These are custom harnesses that will install by plugging into factory ports behind the driver and passenger side tail lights. They will provide you with a 4-Way connector to connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights.

I have attached an installation video for each harness that you can reference depending on which one is needed.

To tow a trailer you will also need a ball mount and hitch ball. I have attached a great article that explains how to choose the best one for your setup along with a link that will take you to our available selection.
