Helpful Expert Reply:
If your 2012 Chevrolet Colorado came with a factory 7-way then the blunt cut wires you need to install a brake controller will be already ran under the dash near the emergency brake pedal (see video of black Colorado). However, if your Colorado did not come with a factory 7-way then you will need to run the brake controller wires yourself.
In order to run the wires yourself you will want to use our Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controllers part # ETBC7. This kit will require a 4-way so if you do not already have one then I recommend using T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118301 because it is completely plug and play (see video of white Colorado).
For a brake controller, look no further than the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 as it is the most popular and well reviewed option we have for you. It has great features such as integrated safeguards and troubleshooting advice. I have attached a review video of this brake controller for you as well.
