Recommended Trailer Tires for 7,000 lb GVWR Trailer

Question:

We need to replace the tires on a trailer we just purchased which has a 7,000 GVWR. It currently has 205-75R15 and I was considering purchasing E rated tires to improve stiffness and reduce trailer walking but I cant seem to find a E rated tire in that size. So Im debating between going with a D rating and keeping the size or changing to a 225-75R15 to pick up the E rating. Ive noticed two different weight limits for D vs E on your website so Im asking for clarity and recommendations. Thank you for your time.

To be frank the only difference you will really notice going to a larger ST225/75R15 tire with a load range of E over a ST205/75R15 tire with a load range of D is in your wallet.

Slightly larger tires with a bit more capacity are going to cost you more money without improving your ride in a noticeable way. I recommend going with a quality ST205/75R15 load range D tire, the Provider # TR20515D which has a 2,150 lbs capacity at 65 psi.

The most important thing to remember when it comes to trailer tires is to inflate them to the maximum cold psi. Doing this will give you the best performance, allowing the tire to wear more slowly and give you optimum gas mileage.
