Recommended Parts to Flat Dinghy/Recreational Tow a 2018 Ford C-Max Hybrid

Question:

I have a 2018 Thor windsport and 18 Ford C-Max. Have any parts been upgraded since this post. How hard is it to install. I guess the rv hookup just slides into hitch. The cmax probably more difficult. Do you recommend and installers in NY.

The following parts that are mentioned on the answer page are actually great choices for your 2018 Ford C-Max:

Base Plate Kit - # 524432-1
Falcon 2 Tow Bar - # RM-520
Safety Cables - # RM-643
Wiring Kit - # RM-15267
Blue Ox Patriot Braking System - # BLU37TR

The only thing that I would recommend differently is that if you plan on towing frequently to use the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 instead. This is also a proportional system but it remains installed on your C-Max and is much quicker to get setup for flat towing.

If you do choose to stick with the Blue Ox Patriot then you will most likely need the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332. Since most people leave their tow bar installed in the hitch receiver on their motorhome (yes it does just slide in) I also recommend using the Tow Bar Cover # RM-055-3 and the Lock Set # RM-304 to help protect your equipment.

You will also most likely need a high-low adapter. I have linked our selection of adapters for you to check out as well as an article that will help you determine which is the best one for your application as well as some other videos and articles for you to reference.

The installation can be done at home if you have all of the correct tools and you are comfortable working on vehicles but it will take quite a while as the DUO braking system that I referenced earlier can take professionals up to a day to install. We recommend finding a local shop or RV dealer that is reputable to perform the installation since we don't have any specific shops to recommend.

Please reference your owner's manual for any specific instructions on flat towing your C-Max as well.
