Can a Passenger Tire be Used on a Trailer

Hello trailer expert dudes. I just purchased a 16-foot dual wheel trailer actually dual axle would probably be a better description. I am not sure on the width but it is wider than my full-size truck. I need to purchase a spare so I came back to etrailer.com for the pricing, selection, staff expertise, because facial hair is a sign of integrity and intelligence, and because it would have been just plain stupid to go anywhere else. So I was looking at the tires that came on the trailer to and as I was scratching my beard I noticed that two of the tires are trailer tires and the other two are car tires. I assume the difference is the stiffness to handle the load and keep them from swaying. Is this correct and are they necessary? All 4 tires are 15 inch 225s and are in really good shape practically new. Normally I haul short distances but on a rare occasion, I may go 300 miles one way with it. I do haul some heavy stuff like small tractors, loads of steel and lumber, heavy machinery like lathes or milling machines, and once every couple of years I haul the money I save from shopping at etrailer.com to the bank. Should I replace the non-trailer tires? Also, if so, given the heavy loads what tire would you recommend and should I get the same for the spare. Thanks.

I would absolutely replace the passenger tires you have on your trailer now for special trailer or light truck tires. As you mentioned, passenger tires do not have the sidewall capacity to support a trailer and they are just simply not rated for the stress and abuse that a trailer tire goes though. I would not advise you risk the what I can only assume are very expensive milling and lathe machines over a set of tires.
