Recommended Complete Kit for Electric Over Hydraulic Upgrade to Old Hydraulic Drum Brake Trailer
Question:
I have a 1978 gooseneck, made by Longneck! The break system, has the old type hoses that plugged into connectors, like hydraulic lines on a tractor and has the booster setup, with the resivor in the neck. The truck had a pump, that was driven off of the engine. The truck has been sold long ago. I want to convert it to electric over hydraulic. What parts kit would I need? The trailer has drum type brakes and I want to stay with the drum set up. I would appreciate your help in this matter.

To convert your trailer to the Electric Over Hydraulic system, all you will need is to add the HydraStar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator w/ Breakaway and 7-Way RV Harness - 1,200 psi # HS381-9066 and then add a compatible electric brake controller to your truck. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 for that controller because it has an integrated electric over hydraulic function that has proven to work well. There may be a simple wiring adapter for your truck and this controller. If you let me know the year/make/model I'd be happy to assist further.
I've attached an article to assist with this conversion. If you want to run new brake lines, I recommend the HydraStar hydraulic Brake Line Kit # HS496-252 for your tandem axle application.
