Brake Controller and 7-Way Recommendation for 2009 Nissan Pathfinder

Question:

I have a 2009 Nissan Pathfinder, it is equipped with a flat 4 trailer plug, and I would like to upgrade it to a 7 pin for electric brakes. Looking for the controller, connection for the controller, and everything required to change over the wiring at the hitch.

To install a 7-way on your 2009 Nissan Pathfinder you'd need to start with the part # 118281 which is a confirmed fit. Then to install a brake controller you'd be able to use a plug and play style adapter like the # 3050-P and you'd be set.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part # 90195. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. This will be the last brake controller you buy. It can easily be transferred to future vehicles as well.

I have a 10 pathfinder that I am trying to change the factory 4 way to seven. My “confirmed fit” is not correct. I bought a Curt 56226 which looks just like your 118281. For the two connectors that go to the factory connectors in the back, the black is ok. The one you show as grey/orange, mine is grey/green and larger. Please advise. Thank you.

All of the custom harnesses we have available for your 2010 Pathfinder feature that same grey plug that's on the Curt # C56226, so I'm wondering if it's possible you located the wrong factory plug on the vehicle. Sometimes there are other nearby plugs that are used for other purposes that offer some confusion.

@ChrisR the factory 4 way is plugged into this spot which is right next to the black connector. Unless there is a secondary plug to allow you to keep the 4way in tact. I’m just going to have to cut and splice them. Thanks for the response.
