The CURT Trailer Hitch, # 13354, would be a good choice for your 2010 Acura MDX. When used with weight distribution, it has a tongue weight capacity of 500 pounds and a gross trailer weight capacity of 5,000 pounds. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a link to a video showing a typical installation.

When choosing a weight distribution system, you will want to go with one that has a tongue weight capacity range that encompasses the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow. This also counts the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle in the tow vehicle.

Tongue weight is usually 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. For a 5,000 pound trailer, that would put the tongue weight between 500 and 750 pounds. I recommend going with a system that is rated for 400 to 800 pounds to cover the whole span.

Take a look at the Reese Weight Distribution System, # RP66541. This is a trunnion bar system that includes the shank so you would just need a properly sized ball like # 19286 (2-5/16 inch diameter) or # A-90 (2 inch diameter). I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.

Trunnion bars are considered more heavy duty than round bars, but both types work well. I have included a link to our weight distribution FAQ article for you.

I would consider adding sway control to this system with a trailer this heavy. There are 2 types of sway control: friction and dual-cam. Dual-cam is preferred because it stops trailer sway before it starts. To add sway control to the system recommended above, use # RP26002. Or you can get them together with part # RP66083.
