Installation of Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 on 2011 Chevrolet Silverado With Factory ITBC

Question:

I printed out your instructions and the pic shows hooking up the Battery Charge Wire and the Brake Controller Wire to the respective studs. My Silverado has two wires in the bundle coming from under the master cylinder one goes on the Battery Charge stud and the other goes on the brake controller stud. To replace my integrated controller with the P3 it looks like I should unhook the wire from the brake controller stud and replace it with the aftermarket brake controller wire. Is this correct? Im installing the P3 because my 5th wheel has electric over hydraulic brakes and my integrated controller will only handle electric brakes. Aftermarket Brake Control Wiring for 07-11 GM Full-Size Truck with Factory-Integrated Brake Control. The article says to run a new blue wire from the controller back to the 7-pin plug. Question: How do I get the new blue wire back there? Through the fire wall? If so, where?

On your 2011 Chevrolet Silverado you do not need to remove the existing red power wire for the factory brake controller from the larger silver stud in front of the under-hood fuse box. If it is removed from the power post an error code will show on the instrument panel because the vehicles computer will be looking for the factory ITBC and will not be able to find it.

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller, part # 90195, is an excellent choice to replace the factory-integrated trailer brake controller (ITBC). It will be able to control the electric over hydraulic brakes on your fifth wheel. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Prodigy P3 brake controller.

You will need to run a length of 12 gauge (# 12-1-1) wire from the brake controller to the 7-Way connector at the rear of the truck. You will want to find an opening with a rubber grommet in the firewall where other wires are going through and use that location. You may have to slit the grommet to allow the extra wire to fit.

I am also including a link to a FAQ page that will describe how to add the Prodigy P3 brake controller to your vehicle with a factory brake controller and a video link of a Prodigy brake controller being installed in a 2011 Silverado.
