Incorrectly Installed Brake Assemblies on Dual Axle Camper

Question:

My double axle camper has what appears to be reversed brakes on the front axle. By this I mean that the left hand has a right hand brake and vise versa as the large shoe faces the front of the trailer and the magnets facing the wrong way. The rear axle seems to be correct. I believe this is factory but may be a mistake. My question is if this is common on a two axle setup to have one set facing the opposite way and if it is wrong what problems I might encounter. Thanks.

If one set of brake assemblies is on the wrong side of the axle, it will lead to diminished braking performance and premature brake wear. Is it possible that the axle was removed at one time and reinstalled incorrectly?

If you look at the photo I provided, you can see how the components of the brake assembly should be situated. The magnet should be at the bottom of the assembly, and the actuating arm for the brake shoes should be at the front (closest to front of trailer) of the brake assembly. The larger brake pad should be at the rear of the assembly.

Simply swap the assemblies, and you should notice improved braking performance.
