Titan Brakerite II Break Away Battery Charging

Question:

Hello, I just completed installing the hydraulic disc brakes to my trailer and I am concerned the two supplied batteries are not being charged when hooked to the tow vehicle. I have measured the voltage at the batteries to be 12.65v. When hooked up engine running to the tow vehicle voltage does not change at the break away batteries. I have measured 13.8v both at the vehicle plug and the input side of the Brakerite SD module. I find no voltage at the module side of the break away battery connection of the SD module. Are the break away batteries designed to be charged/maintained by the tow vehicle through the SD module or should I run alternate power to the batteries bypassing the module?

The Replacement Remote Mounted SD Control Module for BrakeRite II # T4834200 is intended to be installed as shown in the attached diagram. The 12V charge from the 7-way will only help to charge the trailer batteries and breakaway batteries at a maintenance charge amperage. The batteries need to be initially charged on a separate charger like # 329-GENIUS5. The 7-way maintenance charge will not be able to charge a dead battery but only slowly charge a mostly charged battery to maintain its charge.

You do not need to run alternative power to the breakaway batteries.
