For your 2017 Ford F-250 short bed without the factory rail kit, I recommend taking a look at the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16541 along with the Custom Installation and Base Rail Kit # BWRVK2402. This is an excellent sliding hitch that features an interlocking 2-jaw system for a secure connection to the trailer and a fully articulating head for easy hookup and a stable, quiet ride. It has a 20,000 pound towing capacity and 12 inches of slider travel for cab clearance during sharp turns.
A great thing about this hitch is that it features a fast, 1-pin head removal that allows you to easily remove the hitch from your bed in lighter pieces as opposed to lifting the entire unit. The head by itself weighs about 100 pounds and the sliding base weighs in at around 135 pounds.
