Because you have a plug under your dash, you will want to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to determine wire functions. You will need to find the 12V constant power and that will connect to the black wire of your brake controller. Then you will want to find the wire that only gives signal when the brake pedal is pressed. It should not give any signal without the pedal pressed, but should light up your tester when it is. This wire will connect to the red wire of your brake controller. The white wire of your controller will connect to ground, and then you will need to determine the brake controller output wire. The best way to do this is to connect a battery to the 5 o'clock pin on your 7-way at the rear of your vehicle and then test the wires for that 12V constant power. When you unplug the battery, that wire should have no signal. That will connect to the blue wire of your brake controller.
If you don't already have a brake controller, then I recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195. Not only is this our most popular brake controller, it has an LCD screen that displays diagnostics and gives you simple options for the proper control with different trailers. I've attached some videos to assist.
