Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller 90195 Does Not Activate Brakes from Pressing Brake Pedal
Question:
Hello, I just bought this and hooked it up to my 2018 Chevy Silverado. The manual brake works... I went through the settings at 25 mph at 6 power and tried to set the power according to how it has suggested. Only the manual lever works. The automatic is not even engaging - nothing shows an error on the screen. Have looked all over youtube and cant find anyone showing this issue...help! Thanks!

Trailer brake controllers such as the Prodigy P3 # 90195 will generate an electrical brake signal for the trailer brakes either when you press the manual override lever or when the controller receives a signal from the vehicle's brake light switch that is part of the brake pedal assembly. In order for the controller to operate from the brake pedal it must receive the brake light switch signal on its red wire.
In a 2018 Chevy Silverado the P3 installs using wiring adapter # 3016. If you are using the correct harness it cold either be pinned-out incorrectly or it could just have a bent or damaged electrical contact for that red wire that is preventing the brake light signal from reaching the controller. You can visually check the harness plugs for such problems.
If you have a circuit tester like # PTW2993 you can test the red wire at the back of the controller while you press the brake pedal. If you get a signal on this red wire where it enters the P3 but there is still no output to the trailer when you press the brake, then the unit may be damaged internally.
