Does 40 Amp Circuit Braker Need to be Installed on 1998 Grand Cherokee if One Cannot be Found
Question:
I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 1980 StarCraft XL 2108. Im redoing all the wiring on the trailer, and have 2 fuse blocks, one for the lighting and another for the onboard power. Both the 7 way 12v and the trailer power feeds will have a 40 amp circuit breaker per your recommendations, but I am curious if I need to add another circuit breaker to my vehicles stock wiring for the 12v feed. I cannot find any mention of a 12v feed fuse or circuit breaker in my vehicles stock wiring.

Helpful Expert Reply:
If you really want to you could connect a 40 amp circuit breaker like part # 9510 on the 12V power line of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee but it really isn't necessary. As long as it is OEM wiring on your Jeep then it should be up to the standards and a circuit breaker shouldn't be needed. Typically manufacturers will have something like this already installed on the vehicle but we have to be careful with aftermarket products because we are using completely new wiring.
