Towing Capacity of a 2017 Toyota Tundra for 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
We want to purchase a 5th wheel camper and tow it with our toyota tundra. We need to determine the towing capacity of our truck so we know what types of 5th wheels we should look at. We really like the arctic wolf 315TBH8, GVR 10920. any thoughts?

There are several different towing capacities listed for your 2017 Toyota Tundra which will vary depending on engine size, cab style, drive type, bed length, etc. In order to determine the max towing capacity of your specific vehicle you are going to want to find both the gross combined weight rating (GCWR) and the gross vehicle weight (GVW). If you subtract the GVWR from the GCWR that will give you the maximum gross trailer weight (GTW) you can safely tow. These figures can be found on the white tag inside your driver's door jamb.
For a 5th wheel hitch, I recommend using the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16115 if you have the 5-1/2' or 8' bed and the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider part # 16516 if you have the 6-1/2' bed. These hitches both have a 16,000 lb capacity which will be plenty for you needs and a pivoting head for easy connections. To install either I recommend using the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit part # RP50084-58 which is a custom fit that will not require any cutting or drilling into the frame.
Please keep in mind that if you have a 5-1/2' bed then you will also need to use a rotating pin box which I have attached a list of for you.
