Auto Slider Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for Short Bed 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD

Question:

Like many others, I recently traded my long bed truck for a short bed truck. We currently pull a 29 foot, 2007 Forest River Wildcat fifth wheel trailer. We hope to upgrade to a newer trailer in the next few years. The truck we just got is a 2007 GMC 2500HD with a Diesel engine. I’m now trying to decide which hitch I should get. Manual or auto-slider, or an Andersen Ultimate? What measurements can I take to help me determine the best hitch? Thank you.

Since you have a short bed you'd immediately need to rule out the Andersen Ultimate unless the trailer has a tapered nose as it won't give you enough offset for turning clearance. Since you'll need a slider hitch in your truck bed I'd recommend an auto slider like the Demco Hijacker Autoslide part # DM8550034. Having to get out and operate the slider every time you enter or leave a parking lot would be a hassle and inconvenient. The auto slider hitches make it so that you don't have to think about it or ever have to get out in inclement weather.

To install this you'd need a custom install kit for your truck. For that you'd want the Demco Rail Kit part # DM8552012-71. This is a custom install kit which will minimize drilling and install time over a universal kit.
