How to Convert from Hydraulic Drum to Hydraulic Disc Brakes on a Boat Trailer
Question:
Hello, I am looking into changing my boat trailer to disc brakes not sure if a new actuator with electric lock out would fit on my trailer because the wheel pole that lifts the boat up and down is in the way.

You should have no problems whatsoever installing a disc brake actuator with reverse lockout solenoid on your boat trailer. The reverse lockout solenoid will only add about 3" to the end of the actuator. I recommend the Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout part # 099-175-20. This actuator is rated for use on disc brakes, has a 7,500 lb gross trailer weight (GTW) rating, and will work with 2" hitch balls.
In order to make sure this actuator will work for you, you will need to measure from the trounge of your trailer excluding actuator to the base of the tongue jack. As long as there is more than 8" of space available in this location then the above actuator will work for you. I have attached a photo to assist.
In order to complete your transition from drum to disc brakes you are also going to need a disc brake assembly. In order to recommend the correct assembly for you I would need to know which brake mounting flange you have, wheel size/bolt pattern, and your bearing/seal numbers or dimensions. Once you can provide me with this information I would be glad to inform you of your options. If not I have attached our selection of disc brake assemblies.
