Comparing B&W Companion 5th Wheel Sliding Hitch to Patriot Slider for 2018 Ram 3500
Question:
I’m trying to decide between putting a bandw patriot hitch and a bandw companion hitch in my 2018 ram 3500 6’4 bed with no factory fifth wheel prep. What are the advantages/disadvantages of each? Will one give a better ride then the other?

For your 2018 Ram 3500 short bed, the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270 is a confirmed fit. This hitch requires industry standard rails and for that fit, I recommend the installation kit # BWRVK2601 which requires no drilling into your truck frame rails. This combination works great but will give you the above bed rails to deal with when the hitch is not installed.
For a Companion Slider # BWRVK3400 you would need to use the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch w/ Custom Installation Kit - 30,000 lbs # BWGNRK1314. This combination will give you a gooseneck hitch and a clean bed when not in use, but my contact at B&W cautions using this combination with the newer Ram trucks unless using a 5th wheel tailgate as the factory tailgate could cause pin box or tailgate damage with this combination. If you go that route, I recommend the Stromberg Carlson 4000 Series 5th Wheel Louvered Tailgate with Lock for Dodge Trucks # VGD-10-4000.
The ride of each will be comparable with the Patriot being slightly more stable by design with the 4 point base.
