Can Trailer Hub that Fit 8 inch Diameter Wheel also Fit 12 inch Diameter Wheel

Question:

I am getting ready to transform my 4foot x 8foot utility trailer into a small light weight camping trailer less than 1000 pounds loaded. Currently it has 8inch 5 on 4.5 wheels, hub etc. I made a template from the original 8inch 5 on 4.5 rim and took it over to a local tire store that sells trailer rims and tires. It was an exact fit on the larger 12inch rim. My question is, can I increase the rim size on my trailer or do I have to replace the hubs as well? Note: I have removed the fenders and will not install new fenders until the build is completed so I do not have any suspenion travel or rub issues. Thank you,

We have trailer hubs like the part # AKIHUB-545-2-1K that have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern that fit rim diameters of between 8 and 12 inches. This is a fairly common rim diameter range too so you should be totally fine to go up to a 12 inch wheel and tire combo like the Kenda Wheel and Tire part # AM31202 which has an ST145/R12 Tire Installed on a 12 inch wheel with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern.
