How to Install a 7-Way Trailer Connector on a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500
Question:
I have a 97 Dodge Ram 1500 that doesnt have the tow package and need to install a 7 plug wiring harness. What if found on your site only connects to the existing. Do you have any full kits?

In order to install a 7-way trailer wiring harness on your 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 you are first going to need a 4-way trailer wiring harness if you do not already have one and for that I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118329. This is a complete plug and play option that will not require any cutting or splicing.
Once you have the 4-way installed you will then want to use a 4 to 7-way trailer wiring harness adapter. If you will be installing a brake controller then I recommend the Universal Installation Kit part # ETBC7 but if you will not be installing a brake controller then I recommend the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole part # 37185. The adapter is the same in both kits and will plug into the 4-way harness and contain the additional wires needed for the 7-way.
If you also need a brake controller, I recommend taking a look at the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160. This is a proportional brake controller that will sense the braking force of the vehicle and apply that same force to the brakes on the trailer. It has safeguards to protect the vehicle and runs continuous diagnostics checks.
I have attached an install video that walks you through the entire process listed above for you as well.
