Troubleshooting a MaxxFan Roof Vent Fan That Has Stopped Working

Question:

Our fan quit working, no power at all. Is there a fuse somewhere on the fan?

Roof vents with fans like the MaxxFan Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan # MA00-04000K do not have a fuse anywhere in the fan itself. You will want to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to see if there is power getting to the fan. If it was installed by the manufacturer, there may be a circuit breaker that it is attached to, but most of the time they are directly wired to the 12V power.

If there is power going to the switch, you may simply need to replace the switch and not the entire assembly. Depending on what vent you have, there may not be an option other than to replace the entire unit.

My Maxxfan 4000K runs on low and medium speed. When i put it on high speed It kicks out and starts beeping and the green light comes on. I have to depower the unit to restart it (the off switch does not work to depower the unit). I checked the wiring and it seems to be installed & wired correctly. I ordered a new circuit board from eTrailer and replaced it. It continues to kick out on high speed. Any thoughts?

I reached out to my contact at MaxxAir and he said it sounds like the voltage coming into the unit is out of its usable range. Make sure the power going in is somewhere between 10.5V and 13.8V.

@ChrisR Had a similar issue and found the voltage coming into the unit was around 14.8v due to having removed a powered cooler for repair. Turned on the inverter and a couple lights and it came right back on. Thanks for the tip!
